THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME

National Grid School Power Volunteering

A famous proverb states that 'Education is not the filling of a pail; it's the lighting of a fire.' National Grid volunteers are the heart of the School Power programme. The programme is designed to provide you with everything you'll need to light that excitement and inspire future generations by bringing your knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm into the classroom.

As a School Power Volunteer, you will be liaising with and visiting schools helping to deliver the School Power resources. These are based on three key 'power' themes in the school science curriculum - Energy, Forces and Materials.

  • For 4-7 year olds there are three lessons using interactive stories and accompanying practical activities.
  • For the 7-11 age range there are fifteen lessons in total, five for each of the three themes, with engaging informative slide presentations and related hands on activities for you to do with the pupils.
  • There are also three School Power assembly presentations - one for each theme - that can be used with the whole school or a number of classes.
